Whether Weather

In this Internet era, preparing for a trip has never been easier. Google has become the new wealth of knowledge for any travel-related query that you may have, such as the weather. Sometimes, in our haste and the excitement, we forget to check the weather of our destination. We assume that if we're going somewhere south, like Jamaica, then the weather will be sunny, beautiful, and steamy hot.
However, this isn't always true and I've seen many a vacation ruined by torrential rainstorms, hurricanes, and bad weather because of poor planning and preparation. Something as simple as an umbrella can make the difference between a good and bad hair day.
Many travellers only bring flip-flops or thin shoes, again thinking that tropical weather is synonymous with 24/7 sunshine. The rain in these areas is usually far worse than what you're used to in North America. Though brief at times, tropical rains can be heavy, overwhelming, and shoe-ruining.
Even if you can expect sunshine, it's still important to check the weather, particularly the UV-index. A sunburn is not a souvenir that you want to take home with you. While you can't predict the future, you can prepare for the weather, whether or not you're a seasoned traveller or an experienced Google-user.
