A Day to Remember

As we go about our lives, enjoying the many freedoms that we have in such a multicultural country as Canada, it's easy to forget the role that history and its heroes have played in creating such an open nation. On November 11th, Canadians across the globe will pay homage to the brave soldiers and veterans who fought for Canadian freedom and nationhood in the First World War.
It is a day when we remember our past that we may appreciate our present. The Canada we have all come to know and call home today could have been drastically different. As we dedicate a portion of the day to remember the World War Veterans of the 20th Century, we should also take the time to consider those currently fighting overseas for Canada.
I encourage you all to visit or watch the National War Memorial in Ottawa, where the official Remembrance Day ceremony is held. When we acknowledge and appreciate the heroes of Canada's past we embrace a deeper understanding of what it means to be a proud Canadian.
