Kohala, Hawaii is in one word, paradise. Located on the northern tip of the Hawaiian island, Kohala is a land of beauty and is ideal for those who want to relax or go on a different adventure every day.

The first location that visitors should strive to see is the Puukohala Heiau (temple) National Historic Site. It is here that the Mauna Kea Volcano, the largest volcano on the island, sits. Puukohala Heiau was built as a dedication to the war God, Kukailimoku, and in order to help the leader Kamehameha unite all the islands of Hawaii successfully. This stone temple is known as one of the most sacred temples on the whole island, and stands for "the hill of the whale", making Puukohala Heiau a great spot to do whale watching from November-April.

In addition, another site essential to Hawaiian history is the Lapakahi State Historical Park. This 600 year old fishing village has been partially restored, and has a number of hiking trails that allows visitors to walk through the village and see what it has to offer; delicate and detailed stone walls, fishing huts, and an area in which you can play interactive ancient Hawaiian games and learn different fishing methods that the people of the village used.

Beach lovers will be pleased to know that north of the historic sties sit numerous untouched and secluded beaches along the Keaweula Bay. These empty and virgin beaches will allow you to do great camping, fishing, snorkeling, or just bask in the sun's rays.

Kohala is just one of many beautiful spots that Hawaii has to offer! So don't forget your sunscreen or your lei...We are going to Kohala!

Improving the travel experience one trip at a time!
