This year, head out west and experience Calgary,
Alberta!
From its seat at the base of the Rocky Mountains,
Calgary has established itself as a youthful, constantly growing city that
offers something for everyone.
For the sports fan, grab a seat at McMahon
Stadium to watch the Calgary Stampeders trample their CFL opponents, or cheer on
the Calgary Flames during a hockey game at the iconic Saddledome. Every year,
the Calgary Stampede (the world's largest rodeo) shows off Calgary's western
heritage and some awesome bull riding.
Music lovers can enjoy the annual Folk Music
Festival held on Prince's Island Park in the heart of downtown Calgary. Over 60
artists perform at the festival, with genres ranging from hip hop to bluegrass.
The festival also features unique 'workshops,' where several different artists
perform on stage together in informal jam sessions.
Adventure seekers can escape
Calgary to Banff and the Rockies - just a short 1.5 hour drive away. Banff
National Park offers skiing, hiking and biking trails with spectacular views of
lakes and glaciers. Afterwards, soothe sore muscles at the Banff Upper Hot
Springs by taking a dip in the mineral-rich springs, and enjoy a massage from
the spa at the historic Banff Springs Hotel.
With so many activities for so many
different people, Calgary is a fascinating destination you won't want to
miss.
