Painting Your Travel Experiences Green

Being environmentally conscious is
becoming increasingly important these days so why not incorporate
green initiative into your travels. There are plenty of ways to stay
green when you're out of your own environment and there are even
eco-hotels you can choose to travel to.
When you're planning your trip, keep
the little details in mind. Like when you purchase tickets request
the electronic version versus traditional tickets to save paper. Or
when you're booking a rental car, choose a hybrid or electric car
instead of one that uses gas or diesel.
Some hotels and resorts think of almost
everything when it comes to being eco-friendly. One resort in the
Bahamas is 100 per cent solar powered and even all the hot water is
heated by the sun rather than electricity or gas. All of the
buildings were constructed with wood taken from sustainable forests.
This resort even uses composting toilets and water treatment systems
to minimize waste - and even gets guests involved by neatly packaging
plastic products to be taken home and recycled as they don't have a
recycling system in the Bahamas. Have you gone - or would you go -
to a resort like this?
This may not sound like the most
pleasurable vacation for some people but there are other
environmentally friendly things you can do at ordinary hotels. You
can always tell hotel staff you don't need your linens changed
every day which saves water. Or simply by making sure that the lights
and air conditioner are off when you leave your room. Do you know of
any other green traveling initiatives?
