Staying on Track When it Comes to Packing

Whenever I travel, my biggest dilemma is always what to pack. So many unpredictable things can happen when you travel and as someone who loves to be prepared, it can be quite challenging to resist the urge to take everything you own on a two or three week vacation. After a few over-packing disasters, including though not limited to, overweight luggage and subsequent airline fees, broken suitcase handles, and a few strained muscles, I'm happy to say that I have mastered the art of packing. Here are two helpful lists that I have compiled from my travel experiences. I'm always on the look out for suggestions on how to make my suitcase a little lighter, so please feel free to share your own packing tips.
What To Bring
- Swiss Army Multipurpose pocketknife (these pocketknives include a variety of tools and gadgets that can come in handy, from performing a much-needed manicure to peeling an orange)
- A Compass
- Duct Tape or Super Glue (this is especially useful for things that can fall apart unexpectedly, like the strap of your bag or the soles of your favourite walking shoes)
- Photocopies of your passport, visas, or other important documents
- A universal converter or adapter (I swear by these and never leave the country without one. They're perfect for just about anything that needs to be plugged into an outlet, from chargers to curling irons.)
What Not To Bring
- Large amounts of cash
- Every piece of ID you own
- Expensive Jewellery
Remember to check the forecast for your destination so that you can pack accordingly and bring enough essentials like shampoo and body wash, which may be available at the location, but at a very high cost. Last, but certainly not least, don't forget to unload all your worries and pack a smile instead.
